All the screens in your life could be harming you. Your phone screen, computer screen, and even TV emit blue light. With society spending more and more time on devices these days, people are more and more aware of the effects. Harvard Health has an article you can read here!
First, it could be affecting your sleep! Think of all those times you lay in bed on your phone and then have trouble drifting away. The rays from blue light can interrupt melatonin, which is the sleep hormone. We all know the millions of bad things that can come from no sleep. For starters, it can be harder to learn the next day and impair your memory the next day. In the long run, lack of sleep can lead to neurotoxin build up and make it harder to sleep in the future. Furthermore, people with suppressed melatonin levels and whose biological clocks get thrown off are more likely to suffer from depression! The sleep hormone can also start to interfere with hormones the control hunger which could lead to higher obesity risk!
Blue light has a pretty short wavelength (and I’m not an expert on this but this is my understanding of it lol), but the blue light waves can even cause damage to your retinas over time. Of course all these things are being researched further. Some are even looking into the light causing cataracts and increased risk of breast and prostate cancers.

Even though all these things can sound scary, there are tons of thing you can do to avoid the effects! For one, try turning your phone to the warm mode. Even if you just do this for a few hours before bed, you can see a huge difference.
In addition to this, you can pick up a pair of blue light glasses! Think of them like sunglasses. Instead of protecting your eyes from sun rays, they just do so from your devices! My favorites are from Quay!
I love the “Still Standing” style! They are super cute and perfect for chilling or even class!
Of course another way to prevent some of the effects is to spend less time online! Instead of scrolling insta before bed ( which I am totally guilty of) try reading a book or even meditating! Your future self will thank you!
