Savannah is one of those places that I’ve always wanted to visit. We had the chance this summer to spend a few nights at The Bohemian Riverfront in Savannah. From the southern charm to the beautiful views there was nothing not to love.
We started our trip with a complimentary tour around the city on the historic trolley tours. The ride offers a narrated trip around the town with stops at numerous significant spots in the city. You can opt to ride it straight through all the stops, which takes about an hour and a half. You can also choose to hop on and off as you please. We chose to do this so we could explore a little more.
We were sure to stop at Forsyth Park. It’s the classic scene you’ve seen in a million movies and shows. It is also a very famous wedding spot, right in the middle of the park under the willow trees in front of the fountain. It truly was a beautiful spot.
Other stops along the tour include where Martin Luther King Jr. first gave his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech as well as rumored haunted buildings. But don’t be afraid to get out of the city and explore a little more.
We took a day trip out to Tybee Island. The lighthouse there is another famous picturesque stop. The water was so warm and totally manageable. I taught Markus how to boogie board and we were actually successful. Not to mention the super delicious ice cream that we picked up before the drive back! The island is super small and you can find everything you need just by following the one main road! And I can’t forget to mention the $5 t-shirt sale we came across at one of the souvenir shops!
But despite all the amazing things to experience around Savannah, our hotel was truly remarkable.
The Bohemian Riverfront is a part of Marriott’s Kessler Collection. It is definitely more of a boutique hotel which you can truly see with the attention to detail in the service at the space. The interior of the hotel resembles a ship throughout. This is due to the fact that Savannah is actually one of the country’s largest ports. The hotel has a historic view, facing the town, or the riverfront view facing the the river and bridges. The other side of the river is actually South Carolina! We were in a riverfront king superior room. They also have some rooms with balconies! It was so fun to see the enormous cargo ships come in and out of the port.
As for dining, the hotel did not disappoint. They offer up delectable dining at Rocks on the River. I have to say, the Yukon gold mashed potatoes and filet mignon may have been the best I have ever had.
For a lighter meal or some drinks you can head up to the roof and visit Rocks on the Roof. The view from up there is remarkable.
I want to send a special thank you to the team over at The Bohemian. It was a once in a lifetime experience. I know that we will return because we had such a good time. If you have plans to visit the area or are looking for your next trip be sure to check them out here!
